Acne Symptoms
Spots, Zits, Pimples and Rosacea or the more general term Acne is a condition which affects the skin. It can start just before before puberty, hence the so called “teenage” condition, and might last up to the age of around 30. It has been suggested that 80% of the population could be affected during sometime of their life. These acne spots can appear anywhere on the body, but mostly on the face around the chin, cheeks or forehead and can appear in various forms such as red spots or angry cysts, blackheads and whiteheads. These spots vary in size depending on the severity of the condition and although not life threatening, are an embarrassment, possibly causing psychological effects and can be quite painful too, and these are some of the reasons for wanting to get rid of them. The purpose of this site is to review current products available and to discuss the skin conditions for which they will be most effective, but before we do that let’s look at what causes acne.
What causes acne

There are thousands of very small hair follicles on our skin and each of these follicles has something called a sebaceous gland which produces sebum, an oily substance. This gland can overproduce sebum due to an unusual reaction to testosterone, the male hormone and this extra sebum together with dead skin cells causes blocked pores. This blockage prevents grease and bacteria called Propionibacterium acnes or P. acnes which normally live on the skin from escaping and skin lesions in the form of whiteheads or blackheads are formed together with inflammation or a redness around them. Incidentally, the blackness in blackheads is due to the presence of skin pigment and not dirt as sufferers often believe. More inflammation can occur if the blocked follicles become ruptured and can cause nodules – dome or irregularly shaped lesions, and cysts – deep painful lesions containing white blood cells, dead skin cells and bacteria to form which causes scaring once they have gone. Besides cysts and nodules, acne lesions can also turn into papules which appear as small pink bumps, pustule pimples – similar to cysts, contain white blood cells, dead skin cells and bacteria and are red at the base, but if they go away on their own do not leave scars. It is believed that genetics, i.e. if either of your parents suffered from acne, increased androgens hormone production, humidity and environmental pollutants can increase acne, physical irritations such as friction from clothing, touching acne with unwashed hands can introduce bacteria, the daily stress from work, or new relationships, pre-periods, pregnancy, some cosmetics and medicines can lead to the onset of acne breakouts.
How to prevent spots – Additional Acne Tips
For relatively mild cases of acne, the way how to stop spots is to use a medicated lotion or face wash that will remove excess grease and works as a skin cleanser.

Products containing benzoyl peroxide found in gels and lotions assist with the skin peeling and antibacterial actions helping to unblock pores and reduce inflammation and is often used in mild cases.
Facial gel masks containing colloidal silicic acid, used twice daily removes excess grease and dead skin cells, and tea-tree oil which has antibacterial and antiseptic properties have both known to be reliable.
One important point is never squeeze spots as this can push the infection deeper into the skin which can cause cysts resulting in permanent scarring.
In conclusion
There are many ways to get rid of spots: Creams, Facial gel masks, lotions and products containing benzoyl peroxide .

There are two kinds of acne scars, the ones that are the result of the loss of tissue and the other one is the type wherein tissue has been added to the skin when it heals. It is always best to consult a dermatologist to find the best treatment possible for acne scarring.
